The fourth annual Father’s Day Fest will take place in Eureka Park, 1529 Carroll Ave NW, on Saturday, June 10, from 12 noon – 3 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Father’s Day Fest is a fun-filled outing for the family centered around celebrating fatherhood. Local organizations will provide free food, games, music and other family oriented activities and information.
The event is hosted by City of Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) in cooperation with numerous community partners including: Roanoke City Department of Human/Social Services, Roanoke City Parks and Recreation, Total Action for Progress – Father’s First Program, Roanoke Police Department, Roanoke Fire and EMS, Virginia Paternity Establishment Program, RRHA Joint Resident Council, Freedom First Credit Union, INTotal Health, and Family Life and Marriage Enrichment, as well as many other church, community organizations, and businesses.
Father’s Day Fest began in 2014 as part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s national Father’s Day initiative that aims to strengthen the bond between children and their fathers.
The City of Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) was created by the City of Roanoke in 1949 under the provisions of the United States Housing Act of 1937. RRHA is an independent, political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia with three primary responsibilities to the citizens of Roanoke:
• to provide housing and homeownership opportunities and to accomplish neighborhood revitalization;
• to take a leadership role in providing programs and resources for residents that promote and encourage self- sufficiency, self-esteem and self-determination; and,
• to maintain a leadership role in fostering economic development and job opportunities through redevelopment.
In addition to managing these apartment communities, RRHA currently owns and manages 1,275 units of public housing and administers approximately 2,000 units of Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.
