On Friday, Oct. 7, from 5-9 p.m., Taubman will present “Follicilar,” the Hair Stories of Sonya Clark. A special collaborative event for {X}PO attendees is being sponsored by the Taubman Museum of Art.
Known for using human hair and combs, African American multi-media artist Sonya Clark addresses the origins of craft, race, culture, class and history in her work. Highlighting the role of hair in African American society, the exhibition features site-specific installations and performance that explore hair as an indicator of social status, a symbol of age and authority, statement of contemporary style, an object of beauty, and adornment. Also, check out the demonstration on Saturday, Oct. 8.
