Friendship Assisted Living facility hosted a celebration of Black History Month February 20, featuring Rev. Edward T. Burton, a Friendship Independent Living resident, pastor, local Civil Rights leader and Army Veteran. Rev. Burton shared his experiences with Martin Luther King, Jr., and helping to integrate several area restaurants.
Also featured was Captain Deatria Muse, the first female African-American Captain in Roanoke City’s Sheriff’s Office. Captain Muse recognized Frankie Holland another Friendship resident who served in the Sherrifs office from 1988-2000 – paving the way for other African-American women aspiring to become civil servants.
