Alan Munoz has always had a fervent desire to make an impact on society.
Growing up, the native Mexican did not have to search far for positive role models. “So many people are estranged from their family, and it can be traced to what they endured as a child. I had a wonderful upbringing,” he said. “We didn’t have a lot of money, but my family did an excellent job of making the difficult look easy.”
Coming from a lineage of successful barbers, Munoz knew early on what career he wanted to pursue when he grew older.
“I am a third-generation barber. My dad, Manuel, and his father showed me with their hard work the impact that a barber can have on a community,” he said. “They did not make decisions impulsively; they were intentional with everything that they did. That laid the foundation for the man that I am today.”
When Munoz was 14, his family left Mexico to come to the America. Adapting to a new culture was not easy, but once he got acclimated, there was no turning back. Anytime a hurdle presented itself, Munoz relied on his family and faith to overcome.
Whatever the cost was to be a successful barber, Munoz was willing to pay it.
“So many people have helped me over the years, from offering words of encouragement to going the extra mile to help me,” he said. “To say that I’m forever grateful for all of those gestures would be an understatement.”
Munoz says his passion is his profession. “Something as simple as a haircut can give someone confidence or get them out of a dark space,” he said.
“My journey with Profusion Barbershop began in 2003. I would say that my story contains different chapters. Some were great, some were the opposite. The fact that I am still here today though, is a blessing,” he added.
It took time to get everything in order, but a year ago, Munoz was able to convert his van into a mobile barbershop. People have the option of meeting him or he can come to them.
“My wife’s ideas and support made this dream a reality sooner than expected. Customer satisfaction is always at the forefront of my mind,” he said. “I usually charge $40 per cut, depending on the distance.”
