David (retired banker from Wells Fargo) and Martha Kamara (Director of Nursing at Raleigh Court Nursing Home and Rehabilitation), native Sierra Leoneans, know the problem first hand and are compelled to take action to give to their homeland.
In 2013, David and Martha used their personal funds to begin constructing a medical clinic. The enormity of the need made it clear to them they could not do this alone. With their own resources, they have purchased the land and begun construction of the clinic. Now they need help!
The most immediate need is $70,000 to complete phase 1 of the project, which will be a story building. Phase 2 will include bathroom fixtures, windows, doors, tiling, sinks, electrical, plumbing, tile for the floors, solar panels, appliances and everything needed to operate a medical clinic and a food bank. Even without the building, they have already begun to provide service. They return home a couple times a year and provide basic medical care- checking blood pressure and glucose level. People stand in long lines waiting to be seen. For most, this will be the only service they receive all year!
A fundraiser to support this very important initiative will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 from 5 -7 p.m. at the Community Action Center, 1427 Melrose Ave. NW at which an authentic Sierre Leonean dinner will be served!
Please come and learn more about this 501 C-3 worthy project to financially support this critical need!
The goal is to provide a facility where our everyday sisters and brothers in Sierra Leone can receive health care and rehabilitation service.
Please come help make this dream a reality!
