ROANOKE, VA  – Davidsons Clothing, a cornerstone of Roanoke’s retail landscape for 115 years and renowned for its premium menswear and personalized service, today announced the sale of the business to Lynchburg-based R. Coffee Ltd. The transition will be completed in September 2025.

“Davidsons Clothing has been guided by the philosophy that our customers are our community since my grandfather opened our doors in 1910,” said Larry Davidson, third-generation CEO of Davidsons Clothing. “That foundation will remain unchanged as we begin this new chapter.”

The sale ensures continuity for Davidsons’ loyal clientele, with the same expert staff, selection of premium brands and custom services remaining in place.

“When considering the future of Davidsons, finding the right steward for our legacy was paramount,” Davidson explained. “James Bower and the R. Coffee Ltd. team share our commitment to exceptional customer experiences, quality craftsmanship and brands you recognize. I’ll remain actively involved through September and will continue supporting the business afterward to ensure a seamless transition.”

Founded by Rick Coffee in October 1986, R. Coffee Ltd. is a central Virginia staple for quality menswear and exceptional service. Born from Rick’s vision to fill a void after a decline of menswear retailers in downtown Lynchburg, the store offers a curated selection of over 30 prestigious brands while catering to the style needs of discerning gentlemen. For nearly four decades, R. Coffee Ltd. has been a trusted destination for men seeking sophistication and timeless fashion.

“R. Coffee Ltd. has built our reputation on providing unique, customized experiences for our clients,” said James R. Bower, Jr., president of R. Coffee Ltd. “We’re honored to continue Davidsons’ remarkable legacy in Roanoke while thoughtfully introducing new offerings that complement their established tradition. This opportunity perfectly aligns with our approach to personalized service, and we’re committed to earning the trust of Davidsons’ loyal customers and the broader Roanoke community.”

For Davidsons loyal customer base, the message is one of reassurance and continuity. “The relationships we’ve built with our customers over generations are our most valued asset,” said Davidson. “Those relationships will continue to thrive and grow under James’s stewardship.”
