The Roanoke (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated proudly welcomed five accomplished women into the organization during a beautiful induction ceremony on June 7 at the Salem Civic Center. An estimated 40 active, Alumna and visiting Links members attended the ceremony, which was followed by a dinner attended by Links and more than 30 family members and friends.
The 2025-26 Roanoke (VA) Chapter inductees are: Lori Baker-Lloyd, Amy Bethel Brown, Shiree Carr, Victoria Cox, D.N.P., R.N., and Cleopatra Kitt, Ph.D.
The five women, as member candidates, created and executed an outstanding service project – Hands On CPR training at the Melrose Branch Library on May 23. The project, in partnership with the American Heart Association, offered free life-saving skills training to the public.
The project was an excellent complement to The Link, Inc.’s national “HeartLinks” health initiative. The signature national program raises awareness of cardiovascular disease – the leading cause of death in African Americans and women – by hosting Wear Red events, Walk for Healthy Living programs and educational campaigns.
HeartLinks provides chapters a unique opportunity to increase awareness and educate about heart disease, and promote heart-healthy lifestyles throughout the communities we serve. The program targets African American women in local communities in an effort to motivate women to take personal action to lower or control their risk for heart disease.
