It is open enrollment time again and the Local Office on Aging is here to help! Medicare Open Enrollment often causes anxiety for seniors and their families. LOA will provide free Medicare Open Enrollment Counseling with certified VICAP (Virginia Insurance Counseling & Assistance Program) counselors from October 15 through December 7, 2025. Medicare recipients can get one-on-one guidance to help make decisions based on their unique situation and needs.

VICAP counselors can guide applicants through: Understanding Medicare choices; How to Enroll; Plan comparisons; Explaining coverage and costs; Paying for Medicare & prescriptions; and Referrals to other resources.

What to bring: Current medication list with dosages; Medicare card; and Other insurance cards.

Due to the typically high demand for counseling, LOA will be conducting appointments at a new off-site location:  4822 “J” Valley View Blvd. NW, beside K-Pot restaurant. This dedicated space will allow for more counseling appointments per day, as well as convenient parking for seniors.

Appointments are available Monday – Thursday, 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Note that the site will be closed on Fridays, all federal holidays and the entire week of Thanksgiving.

Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are accepted on first-come first-served basis. Counseling by telephone is also available.

To make a counseling appointment, call LOA main office at (540) 345-0451.
