The Kirk Family YMCA has selected Delonte Campbell as its new Youth & Family Director. In his role, Campbell will oversee and coordinate programs, staff, and operations designed to engage children, teens, and families in fitness and community activities.

Expressing excitement about his new role, he said, “I am incredibly honored and humbled to have this opportunity at the Kirk Family YMCA.”

Campbell brings a background in leadership and coaching to his new role. A Northern Virginia native, he graduated from Ferrum College with a degree in elementary education. A four-year member of the school’s football program, Campbell later served as associate head coach for Hidden Valley High Football and assistant varsity coach for Hidden Valley Basketball.

Jay Smith was not surprised when he learned of Campbell’s hiring. “I was thrilled when I heard the news. Delonte’s hard work and dedication have clearly paid off. I wish him all the best in this next chapter,” he said.

“I have watched Delonte work hard for years. He coached my cousin at Hidden Valley. Seeing him land this opportunity has been awesome,” Michael Coleman said. “His talent and dedication have always stood out. I know he will do great things at the Y.”

In a statement, the YMCA said, “We are thrilled to welcome Delonte to our YMCA family. Delonte brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for community service that aligns perfectly with our organizational values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.”

With a mix of full-time leadership and part-time staff, the Kirk Family YMCA employs more than 40 people. Among the programs offered are youth sports, swim lessons, group exercise, pickleball and kid zone activities.

Part of the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge, the location at 520 Church Ave. serves more than 7,000 members annually.

Members who join in October receive 50 percent off their first month plus a waived join fee. For additional information, including more programs and services, www.ymcavbr.org /locations/kirk/kirk-family-ymca/
