Members of the Beta Chi Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. attended the 67th Boule’ of the international sorority held July 8-14 in Atlanta, GA. The over 22,000 sorority members present were offered 23 available opportunities for service in which they could participate.
Beta Chi Omega Chapter donated over 35 “Little Dresses for Africare.” The international sorority surpassed its goal by collecting over 34,000 “pillowcase” dresses, which
have been shipped to villages in Tanzania, South Africa, and Liberia.
Marylen Harmon of Beta Chi Omega also participated in the “Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Project.” Over 100,000 meals were packaged in Atlanta to help end world hunger.
Roanoke members participated in the historic All-White Formal Banquet, which was the largest sit-down dinner in Georgia’s history and one of the largest dinners ever served nationwide. The banquet was followed by a concert by old school favorites, Boyz II Men. Other musical guests and dynamic speakers during the conference included: Congressman John Lewis, Tom Joyner, Janelle Monae, Holly Robinson Peete, Regina Belle, Carl Thomas, Byron Cage, Chuck Robb, and Jeffery Osbourne.
The following Honorary members were inducted during the Boule’: Breast Cancer Champion Karen Eubanks Jackson, Ambassador Susan Denise Page, Attorney Judy A. Smith, Actress Euphemia L. “Tika” Sumpter, and U.S. Deputy Surgeon General Sylvia Trent-Adams.
An exciting and inspirational time was enjoyed as the AKAs flooded Atlanta with pink and green.
