Register to transform hope into answers for local MDA families!
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is bringing strength to life for kids and adults in the Roanoke Valley & SW and Central VA with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases at the 2018 MDA Muscle Walk of Roanoke on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Roanoke College.
The annual MDA Muscle Walk is a meaningful way for families, friends, neighbors and local businesses in SW & Central VA to come together to raise critical awareness and funds for muscle-debilitating diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility.
This year’s walk includes a short stroll around the Roanoke College track and uses a route designed for participants of all ages and abilities, including a wheelchair and equipment-friendly course that everyone can honor MDA families and join the fight against muscle diseases.
“There are kids and adults in our community living with muscular dystrophy and related diseases that take away everyday abilities like walking, hugging and even breathing,” said MDA director of Development, Diane Boardman. “When you support the MDA Muscle Walk of Roanoke, you can help change that by helping to fund urgently-needed research, treatments and support that will help these individuals live longer and grow stronger.”
One new treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy has helped local girls move muscles they haven’t used since birth!! “This is the most inspirational event of our year as you have the chance to walk side-by-side with local MDA clients you are helping!”
Registration for the Muscle Walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the track at Roanoke College in Salem. The event is more like a carnival than a walk featuring games, prizes, food, ice cream, music, a photo booth and lots of fellowship and fun for the whole family!
Expected to be in attendance at the event are local MDA clients and K92 FM personalities as well as friends from Trustcare Home Medical Equipment, Bath Fitter, EZ Rampz, Freedom First, David James Custom Homes, Salem Fire Fighters, Mobility Works, Enterprise, Walgreens, NuMotion and other great generous companies.

More than 140 Muscle Walk events are expected to take place throughout the U.S. in 2017. Last year, dedicated participants raised $7.2 million through Muscle Walk for MDA and more than $40 million has been raised since Muscle Walk began in 2011.
Every dollar raised through Muscle Walk benefits MDA’s mission to fund groundbreaking research across diseases and provide individuals with life-enhancing programs and support services, including state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care three MDA Care Centers at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke.
Funds raised also make MDA Summer Camp possible for more than 60 Greater VA kids where they can experience the best week of the year at no cost to their families!
