Mother and Woman of the Year celebration at Central Baptist

Mother of the Year
Lori A. Otey born and raised on a farm in Cross, SC was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. She was a member of the choir and the usher board. Throughout her school years, she was a  Girl Scouts, in the Honor Society, played instruments, head majorette in high school, played sports, and was Miss Senior of the1979 class at Cross High School in South Carolina where she graduated.

Lori earned her associates degree in clerical skills at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke. She has worked for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for 29 years as a diet technician in the customer care office. Lori has earned the nickname “Big Momma” or ”Momma O”due to her loving, caring personality and constant advice when needed. She is a faithful member of Central Baptist Church where she attends Sunday School, Bible Study, Teachers Meetings, and sings on the Gospel Choir.
She is the daughter of Rosana and James Anderson, wife of Eric Otey, Sr., mother of 6 beautiful children: LaQuanda (Marko) Bell, Eric, Jr., Jessyka,  James, Akeem and Rosetta Otey and grandmother to her 5 precious grandchildren, Erica, Jamaicia, Jamiya, Malakai, and Jaidyn.

Woman of the Year
Sister Wilhelmenia M. Hubbard has been chosen as Woman of the Year at Central Baptist Church where she has been a member since joining many years ago under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. H.H. Waid. She is an active member of the Sunday School, the Sunshine Missionary Circle and the Senior Usher Board.

She is a former employee of Singer Furniture Co. and currently works part-time at Hall & Associates. Sis. Hubbard is a mother of 3 children, Gloria R. Saunders, Columbus, OH; Timothy Hubbard, Roanoke, and Marva Whitten of Vinton, VA. She also has 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and loves cooking and planting flowers.

Sis. Hubbard and Sis. Otey will be recognized on Sunday, May 10 during the 11 a.m. worship service at Central Baptist Church, 1502 Staunton Ave., NW. where the Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Keaton, is pastor.
