Tavares Jordan “T.J” Moye-Scott, one of the outstanding students that the T.G. Howard Community Center Youth Program has had an opportunity to work with, has participated in various outreach programs with the community center over the years and has been given a unique opportunity. Tavares will be participating in a program being facilitated between the T.G. Howard Community Center and the historic Roanoke Tribune periodical. T.J. will be responsible in distributing the periodical in the New River area of Pulaski County; an extremely important responsibility for an individual his age, but Tavares has always shown a level of maturity beyond his years.
T.J. Scott was born in Connecticut, but is currently being raised in Pulaski County. As a sophomore at Pulaski County High School, he participates on the football team and on the Cougar Track squad. Though he is active in sports, T.J. successfully received all A’s on his academic reports since the 7th grade.
“I would like to become a Physical therapist, and would really like the opportunity to play collegiate level football. It would be great to play for an NFL team someday but I definitely want to complete my studies. My mother has really instilled in me the importance of a strong education. I had actually gotten injured during the season and it drove home that point to me. Education has to be the main priority.”
He credits his mother as well as his teachers for being both supportive and encouraging stating that his mother taught him to push forward and never take anything for granted.
“Several years ago, my mother had to deal with a medical situation and I witnessed her going through it. It changed my outlook on a lot of things. Health/Life are not guaranteed to anyone and you need to value those close to you.”
T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. would like to thank T.J.’s parent for raising such an outstanding young man and allowing him to participate in our Outreach programming. Pulaski County has some very bright and talented students who are committed to their community.
