Total Action for Progress (TAP) Financial Services component and Virginia CARES, Inc. is excited to announce a new loan program available to returning citizens in our community. The program is made possible by a grant from First Citizens Bank.

This program offers small loans to those returning to the community after incarceration. Finding employment is one of the biggest guarantees of success for returning citizens. It can also be the most challenging step in the process. This loan program will help to clear common roadblocks to gainful employment, and offer a financial boost to those who don’t have the option of going to a traditional bank for a loan.

Loans of between $300 and $500 are available and feature a low-interest rate with a three-to-six-month repayment period. Plus, there is an on-time repayment incentive.

Loans can be used in a variety of ways to boost employability: Purchasing tools to start a small business; Buying necessary work clothes and boots; Making small repairs to vehicles to get to and from work and/or Paying for other needs to jumpstart your life.

To be eligible, returning citizens must have been working for six months and have proof of Social Security number, ID, and permanent address. For more information, contact Tia Graham at 540.915.3449.
