The Roanoke City Retired Educators Association (RCREA) held its spring meeting and awards reception on Thursday, May 17, at Covenant Presbyterian Church. This year, the association was extremely proud to present two William Fleming High School graduates with $500.00 Scholarships.
The recipients are Keyla N. Marquez, daughter of Job and Paty Marquez and Kai Washington-Brown, daughter of Johnny and Quo Vadis W. – Brown. Both honor graduates maintained GPA’s of 4.0 and above and ranked 4th and 7th in their 2017 graduating class.
Keyla, fluent in Spanish and English, was president of the Virginia Teachers of Tomorrow (Educators Rising Program) at William Fleming. She will attend Virginia Commonwealth
University (VCU) this fall and major in Mathematics. Her greatest desire is to become a mathematics teacher.
Kai, also enrolled in the Educators Rising Program, she will attend Radford University and major in Elementary Education. Because of her love for dance, she also aspires to become a dance teacher and own her own studio.
After showing proof of enrollment and class schedules, Keyla Marquez and Kai Washington-Brown met with the RCREA treasurer, Marie Bright on Friday, July 28 to receive their $500.00 awards.
