The City of Roanoke has already begun preparing for the upcoming winter, but it is time for the community to get creative and name the City’s snowplows. Hoping to name 20 snowplows this year, residents and employees will have the opportunity to make their mark on this fun winter tradition. This year’s contest officially kicked off on October 20, and residents have until November 3 to submit their entries. This is a fun opportunity to be clever and imaginative, but there are a few important rules to follow.
Entries must: Be under 25 characters; Avoid using personal names, political references, or inappropriate language; and Include valid contact information. If the person submitting is under 18, parental consent is required for selected entries.
Last year’s winning names were Austin Plowers, Clearopathra, Control Salt Delete, Han Snolow, Plow Chick A Plow Wow, Plower Ranger, Plowy McPlowface, Sir Plows-A-Lot, Sled Zeppelin, Sleetwood Mac, and The Big LePlowski. These names will not be eligible to win again this year.
“Last year’s contest was a fun and enjoyable way for the community to connect with our work,” said Roanoke Fleet Manager Wayne Farley. “Winter operations are serious business, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun while getting ready for the season.”
Winning names will be voted on and selected by City snow fighters and support staff, and be announced in early December. Those selected will see their chosen name displayed on a snowplow and also receive a Roanoke swag bag. So, get ready to brainstorm your best snowplow names and be a part of Roanoke’s coolest winter tradition!
