Dr. Reginald Shareef

Dr. Reginald Shareef, professor of political science/public administration at Radford University for 30 years, will talk about slavery at a lecture of the Historical Society of Western Virginia, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Christ Lutheran Church, Grandin Road and Brandon Ave. with the title “Slavery as America’s Peculiar Institution: an Economic, Social Psychology and Value-Relative Analysis.” He will discuss the notion that universal values change as society evolves. Slavery has always been a moral wrong!

The author, Dr. Shareef of “African-American Heritage of the Roanoke Valley,” holds a doctorate in public administration and policy from Virgnia Tech. He has an academic appointment at Virginia Tech and has developed an “Introduction to Islam” course at Roanoke College. He has published four books and 25 journal articles or book chapters on organization change/leadership/public policy. He has written over 350 public affairs columns for the Roanoke Times online publication.

In addition to his position with Radford Univ., Dr. Shareef is author of “The Roanoke Valley African-American Heritage.”

The lecture is free and open to the public.
