The Roanoke Branch NAACP will be having its first ever drive-thru Voter Registration. This endeavor involve the Youth Council and other volunteers throughout the Roanoke Valley. Since the Voting delegates returned from the 109th NAACP Convention held in San Antonio, TX in July they have worked non-stop to register potential voters. National NAACP President Derrick Johnson gave the charge to all delegates to return home and focus on our theme: Defeat Hate-VOTE!”
The local Branch NAACP has propelled into action by hosting a massive drive-thru Voter Registration on Saturday Sept. 29, between 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at WTOY located at 2206 Melrose Ave. NW. (the process can take less than five minutes). The local NAACP Youth Council will be selling hot dogs with all the fixings, baked goods, cakes, brownies and cookies, etc and soft drinks.
The First Section of the Fourteenth Amendment’s most important provisions require that all citizens be granted “Equal Protection” by law. This means that State and Federal Governments cannot deprive an individual or class of people of the Rights enjoyed by others similarly situated. Our Voting Rights are protected under the Bill of Rights. Our Vote is our currency! If we do not Vote, we’ll never be able to make substantial strides on the issues that matter most to our communities. We cannot stay silent-We Must VOTE!!! We must never forget the sacrifices made by so many to get us here and we must never, ever go back!
We encourage you to Vote on Tuesday, Nov. 6. It’s important that you know where your voting precinct is located. Also consider planning for your means of transportation and most importantly, bring your photo ID!
We will be here to serve you on Saturday Sept. 29 at our first ever Drive-Thru Voter Registration in honor of the sacrifices of our ancestors. Please also encourage your family and friends to join you in Voting on Tuesday Nov. 6!
