Three annual scholarships have been announced for graduating seniors by the Roanoke Chapter of Girl Friends, Inc. Applications are located in Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Lynchburg, Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Salem High School Guidance Counselors’ offices. The local scholarships are $300 and $500 to eligible minority students to assist with the cost of tuition, books and/or other mandatory fees. The deadline for these scholarships must be received on or before March 9, 2015.
The scholarships, created to assist minority students, particularly African American students, will provide financial assistance of at least $1,000 to students attending a four year accredited college/university. The first, a National Girl Friends Funds, Inc. Scholarship will be awarded for up to four years, providing the award recipient satisfy the renewal requirements. All completed applications with required attachments are to be received on or before February 21, 2015.
The Roanoke Chapter of Girl Friends, Inc. is part of a national organization of approximately 1600 professional women in 47 chapters from coast to coast. Last year, over $45,000 was awarded to qualifying returning scholarship students and new 2014 scholarship recipients.
