Roanoke Deltas culminate May Week Program

The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrated the May Week with two celebrations, the “Celebration of Youth” Friday, May 12, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lincoln Terrace Elementary School with  Miss Jabberwock 2017, Tiana Keeling, as Mistress of Ceremonies.

Each year, the Education Coordinators share the accomplishments of their programs and present “Certificates of Participation” to the girls / boys in their programs.

Coordinators are Donna W. Lee, of the Precious Pearls at Lincoln Terrace Elementary School; Helen Dean, of Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy at Addison Middle School; Tanisha Nash, of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy at Northside Middle School; Terri Wheaton, of Delta GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully) at Patrick Henry High, and Tonya Jackson,of the GEMS at William Fleming.

Guests included Roanoke City and Roanoke County administrators, Jabberwock participants and their parents, and Education Program participants with their parents. Camani Board rendered a beautiful piano selection for the occasion.

After the presentation of certificates, a reception, catered by La Cove Restaurant, was held in honor of all 2016-2017 participants in Delta Education programs and in the Jabberwock 2017 Scholarship Fundraiser.

On Saturday, May 13, Sorority Sisters; Shirley White, Connie Steele, Bonnie Pritchett and Gale Dowe were each presented with their 25 Year Plaque from the National Headquarters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for 25 years dedicated service by President Monica Callaway.

All in attendance enjoyed a delicious luncheon following the meeting.

Monica Callaway is local chapter president.
