The Social Action Committee of the Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce reaching its goal of $1,500.00 to donate to the K.I.N.D. (Kids in Need of Desks) Fund sponsored by UNICEF. The Sorority stresses the importance of a good education and strive for excellence here in the United States. Unfortunately, 70% percent of school children in Malawi, Africa do not have a desk or chair.
Every day, millions of children throughout Africa struggle to learn while sitting on a floor or on the ground outdoors. Supplying these desks will allow the children to be able to write and concentrate as desks create an environment more conducive to learning.
This ambitious campaign was sponsored by Delta’s Social Action Committee, chaired by Patricia White-Boyd. Monica Callaway is chapter president.
