On June 14, hundreds upon hundreds of residents from the Roanoke area are expected to gather Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in McCadden Park to promote unity and community-building as part of the NO KINGS day of action. For those unfamiliar with the area the event will be held at the Northwest corner of McCadden Park, 2020 Andrews Road, in Northwest.
The event, led by Roanoke Indivisible, is one piece of an engaged network of more than 1,000 protests and inclusive peaceful gatherings nationwide that day. They each showcase Americans’ desire to push back against greed and excess from political leaders and their enablers.
The Roanoke event will feature music, performance artists, crafts, a kids tent and so much more. It is family- and pet-friendly and will lead into the Roanoke Cultural Collective’s annual Roanoke Juneteenth Family Reunion. Everyone in the Roanoke area is welcome to join both events.
NO KINGS day follows a wave of mobilizations — including HANDS OFF! in April and MAY DAY — as more Americans demand accountability from their leaders.
Media members from all Roanoke-area outlets are invited to attend and speak with organizers. The shared space with the Roanoke Cultural Collective allows for dual coverage of the day’s major Roanoke events with one trip.
