The Showtimers Community Theatre announces the final show of its 2015 season as Bloody Murder. This comical farce, the creation of Roanoke actor/playwright Ed Sala, was first produced in 2008. Since then, it has run over 30 times throughout the country.
Presiding over the mayhem of Bloody Murder is director Christa Woomer, a native of Roanoke who spent 10 years in Hollywood pursuing a career in acting. Although Christa appeared in a number of top-flight television and film projects, she is best known for being “the Unibrow Lady” in a Planters Peanuts ad that ran during the 2008 Super Bowl. In Roanoke, she has been busy acting and directing at a number of area theaters including Showtimers stage when she was 19 years old. She made her post-Hollywood debut at Showtimers more recently when playing in Messiah on the Frigidaire.
The cast of eight bringing this comical murder mystery to life includes an excellent cross section of Roanoke’s thriving thespian community to include: Kelly Anglim, a JMU graduate with a degree in theatre, Stephen Glassbrenner and Blair Peyton, both frequent participants in the area’s improv scene who admirably lend in their comedic talents to Bloody Murder. Stephen Baltz and Brian Lee both of whom have appeared in recent Showtimers productions, most notably Twelve Angry Men. Also making a return to the stage after taking several years off to raise a family is Heather Hamlin O’Bryan. Welcome new additions to the Showtimers family are Meagan Motley and Susy Schumann.
Playwright Ed Sala is a Roanoke resident with an impressive resume. Theatregoers should consider attending the opening night performance on Wednesday, Nov. 11, which traditionally includes a meet-and-greet with cast and crew after the show. A bevy of homemade delicacies and a fine assortment of libation top off the evening. In Short, a show you don’t want to miss!
