Here are some tips: Salt works best when spread on the sidewalk prior to precipitation falling. If you spread it afterwards, give it time to begin melting. Salt is less effective when it’s below 15 degrees. Spread sand, kitty litter, or gravel to provide traction. These won’t melt the ice, but they will improve safety.
