In case you missed it, Spelman College has been ranked the best Historically Black College in America for the 20th Consecutive Year by U.S. News & World Report. The school was also ranked the number two performer in Social Mobility, which means the graduates move up in society, typically measured through changes in occupation and income. It is important to note that 28% of Black Women with less than a high school diploma are below the poverty line, as compared with only 2.1% of Black women with BS degrees or higher.

Spelman is recognized for academic excellence, creativity, character, and leadership development, and it is the nation’s leading producer of Black women earning Ph.Ds. in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

You may be wondering why this is the case: the answer is that it is filled with Black women; the entire student body is composed of Black women.

The most disrespected person in America is the black woman.

The most unprotected person in America is the black woman.

The most neglected person in America, is the black woman.

– Malcom X

Women manage, quite brilliantly, on the whole, and to stunning and unforeseeable effect, to survive and surmount being defined by others. They dismiss the limiting definition, however dangerous or wounding it may be–or even, sometimes, find a way to utilize it – perhaps because they are not dreaming.

– James Baldwin

There is no force equal to the strength of a woman determined to rise.
– DuBois

More Black women are earning college degrees, making them among the most educated groups in this country. Black women are also the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs, with business ownership growing by more than 50% in recent years. And despite economic and systemic barriers, homeownership rates among Black women are rising. (Economic Policy Institute, State of Working Data Library)

In the pipeline to leadership qualifications – college education — Black women are dominating Black men. In college graduation, the male-female gaps in favor of Black women are: 37 points in Associate’s Degrees (whites 22.4); 32 points in Bachelor’s Degrees (whites 12); 44 points in Master’s Degrees (whites 22.4; 24 points in First-Professional Degrees (whites + 7.8); and 33 points in Doctoral Degrees (whites 13.9). We all know the relationship between education and democracy, for the individual and for the nation.

In spite of these data, however, Black women are suffering huge employment losses.

Federal and private-sector employment losses under Trump’s influence seem targeted to Black women in particular. Black women suffered employment losses in 2025 and 2026 at alarming rates —particularly among college graduates and public-sector workers. Some data analysts reported that up to 600,000 Black women had been economically sidelined. And, there’s no sign the spiral is ending anytime soon. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)

The “legitimate” powers that rule America, e.g., the US Congress (I do not consider Trump’s regime legitimate because he committed what, before Robert’s violation of his own oath of office, was the unpardonable crime of Treason) does not look anything like America demographically. The greatest disparity is the male-female representation.

In 2016, when Trump ran against Hillary Clinton, Hillary won the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes; nearly 100% of Black women voted for Hillary, the highest total of all groupings.

When Black women run for political office at any level, they face both powerful obstacles that have been part of America’s White Male Supremacy since the beginning – racism and misogyny.

Harris’s national-level political involvement has been positive for the empowerment of Black women and for democracy. Voter registration for young Black women in 13 key states shot up 176% in the runup to 2024 as compared with 2020. The increase for Black women in general was nearly 100% and among young Latina’s it was 150%. (CBS News and TargetSmart)

Black women’s dominant preference for Democratic Principles held true when Harris was paired with Biden in 2020; as well as when Harris headed the ticket in 2024, despite the 744,400 proxy-racist Black women who chose to side with Trump. Not surprising — the number of Black males who joined Trump’s cult was more than twice that of Black females.

Citizens disgrace themselves by associating with a government/political system that treats even some of its citizens unjustly (especially their own people), even if they are not direct victims of its injustice. Thoreau

The impeccable qualifications of Black women and their advocacy for democratic principles are anathema for Trumpism, in which racism and misogyny are prominent components. Socrates said that if women achieve equal status with men — e.g., political and social — women will immediately become superior and this helps explain why Trumpists are so afraid of Black women and have made them principal targets for attack.
