Total Action for Progress (TAP) announces the “Talent in the Star” event, a free youth talent showcase set for 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 at the Jefferson Center’s Shaftman Performance Hall. Following last year’s successful competition, this event aims to empower Roanoke’s youth by providing a platform for talent expression and discussions on critical issues.
“Talent in the Star” is the culmination of the “Tomorrow’s Leaders” summer arts camp, a seven-week program aimed at building life skills, fostering connections, and offering trauma-informed training to combat rising gun violence in Roanoke. By providing coping skills, meaningful connections, and opportunities for expression, the camp and talent show empower youth to achieve a better future and address community violence.
Tomorrow’s Leaders campers work hard to prepare for the main event, gaining hands-on experience in stagecraft, marketing, promotions, logistics, digital media creation, social media management, administration, communications and related skills, as well as auditioning to showcase their talents in a collaborative effort to address local issues such as gun violence. TAP acknowledges previous support from partners such as the United Way, Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, and donors.
Their contributions were crucial in bringing this event to life. TAP invites all members of the community to attend this vibrant free event. Support the talented youth of Roanoke through your attendance to this free event and donations, and foster hopeful and creative solutions to problems faced by our community. For more information contact Nicole Ross at nicole.ross@tapintohope.org or check out the flyer for Tomorrow’s Leaders Art Camp.
