The Taubman Museum of Art, located at 110 Salem Ave. SE, is pleased to present the 58th annual Sidewalk Art Show June 4-5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and all displayed works will be available for sale.

The Sidewalk Art Show is one of Southwest Virginia’s most anticipated summer traditions, infusing downtown Roanoke with energy, excitement and creativity. This annual event, which occurs the weekend after Memorial Day, is a premier destination for fine art shopping that offers visitors the opportunity to meet and talk with exhibiting artists.

This year, nearly 130 artists from across the country will display and sell original artwork including paintings, prints, watercolors, etchings, mixed media, fine art photographs, fine crafts and sculpture.

The event will feature artists from as far away as Canada, Maine, and Florida, with a strong representation of local and regional artists. More than 25 percent of the artists participating in this year’s show are new to the event, while many other participants have exhibited for decades. Artist Mark Woodie, who has participated in the show since age 19, marks his 43rd year at the event this year.

Awards will be given in categories such as Best in Show, sponsored by Grand Home Furnishings, 2nd and 3rd place as well as Merit Awards for each specific medium, sponsored by LinDor Arts. Memorial Awards include: Mickie Kagey Watercolor Award, Paul Ostaseski Memorial Award and the Allen Ingles Palmer Memorial Award. All winners from the Sidewalk Art Show will be invited to exhibit their winning piece in the Museum Community Display on the Museum’s ground floor following the event.

Inside the Museum, guests are invited to participate in the creation of a community collage from recyclables. The Rescue Mission also will host a children’s drawing contest in the atrium to select the t-shirt design for its 2016 Drumstick Dash. The galleries and café will be open for patrons to experience as well.
