Who is Meghan Ware, and how would you describe yourself to someone who has never met you?
I’m someone who is loving, loyal and passionate. I’m always thinking of ways to help others and stay positive.
Where were you born and raised? What was your upbringing like?
I was born in Salem, but grew up in Roanoke. Raised by a single mother and awesome grandparents, I didn’t know how strong my village was until I got older. Growing up with siblings meant that I had to learn responsibility very early. Those powerful lessons shaped me into the strong person that I am today. I always loved being around my siblings and cousins. I had a massive imagination as a child. I vividly remember the feeling of playing with Barbie Dolls and writing books.
After high school, what was the next chapter of your life?
Once I got my diploma, I entered a season of self-discovery. I moved to Richmond, VA with my sister and attended Virginia Union University. During this chapter of my life, I became a mother to my son, Christian, and began building my career in banking.
What is your official title, and what do your responsibilities consist of?
I am the founder and instructor of Mobility With Meghan. My responsibilities include teaching and hosting Pure Barre, pilates and mobility classes. I support clients at all levels. I’m all about building an inclusive community centered around strength, flow and confidence and grace.
How important is family to you?
Family is everything to me. They are both my foundation and motivation. Being a mom, I am deeply influenced by how I show up in life. I am reminded daily about the importance of balance, patience and leading by example.
If you were building the ultimate music playlist for a six-hour road trip, which artists would be on it?
My playlist would have a little bit of everything on it. It would probably start with Mariah Carey and end with Blxst. A combination of Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Jhene Aiko, Day 26, Tasha Cobbs, Tye Tribbet, Tracy Chapman, Cardi B and Taylor Swift would be in between.
What are some of your favorite City of Roanoke memories?
I would have to say: being a part of Roanoke’s Lock In with my friends, attending football and cheerleading games at Victory Stadium and hanging out with my buddies after school and on the weekends. Also here lately, the Not Your Average Everything events have been fun and exciting opportunities to create memories.
What are some of your hobbies?
Outside of teaching, I love staying active with yoga, spending time with my kids and creating content that inspires others to move and feel good in their bodies.
Which people have had the biggest impact on your life, outside of family?
Janis Gooding, whom I met when I moved to Winston Salem in 2017, has always been a woman of God, strength, determination and integrity. She is a successful business owner, but beyond that, her influence has been profound. She’s poured into and encouraged me from the first day I met her. From treating not just my children, but all children as her own and giving back to the community, I’m so grateful to have her as a lifetime mentor.
If you could go back and give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
I would tell young Meghan to always trust the process and know that God’s timing is the best timing. Also, to always put him first. To be intentional with each decision in life because patience and grace are the true rewards. And most importantly, to love myself and never underestimate my strength.
