Eleven 2024 Kegley Preservation Awards were presented on Thursday, November 21, 2024 during the Foundation’s Annual Meeting and Awards Reception held at the new Belmont Lofts located at 825 Stewart Avenue SE in Roanoke. The Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation promotes the protection and stewardship of historic, cultural, and natural resources in the Roanoke Valley through education and advocacy.
“Recognition of people, programs and projects that help to promote good stewardship and preservation of these resources is an important part of achieving the mission of the Foundation,” explained Alison Blanton, Awards Committee co-chair. Blanton noted that this year’s list has a wide variety of nominees from private and public renovation projects to Lifetime Achievement awards to heritage education.
The 2024 Kegley Preservation Awards are as follows: Cedar Hill Farm –Award for Stewardship; Wheatland Manor –Award for Rehabilitation; “Burrell Day” Life and Legacy of Dr. Issac Burrell –Award for Heritage Education; The LEAP Hub –Award for Rehabilitation; Factory Flats, LLC –Award for Adaptive Reuse; The 1947 Carvins Cove Water Treatment Building –Award for Stewardship; Dr. Rupert Cutler – Lifetime Achievement Award for Environmental Advocacy; Roanoke Civil War Round Table –Award for Heritage Education; Boones Mill N&W Railway Depot –Award for Restoration; Thomas Klatka –Lifetime Achievement Award for Preservation of Pre-historic, Historic, and Cultural Resources; and Belmont Lofts, LLC –Award for Adaptive Reuse.
The Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation (RVPF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established in 1988 to preserve the historic, natural and cultural resources of the Roanoke Valley (City of Roanoke, City of Salem, Town of Vinton, Roanoke County, Botetourt County, and Franklin County, Virginia). For the past 22 years, the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation has recognized projects, people, and community groups in the region through our annual George A. Kegley Preservation Award program. These awards recognize notable examples of historic preservation, rehabilitation, stewardship, education, advocacy, and restoration projects that have maintained or added to the Roanoke Valley and surrounding area’s historical, architectural, and/or cultural heritage.
