Black History Month has just ended and Women’s History Month has just begun. Candace Owens epitomizes PROXYISM. Proxyists are descendants of the formerly oppressed groups — the Indigenous peoples, the descendants of America’s Slave Class, women, and the Poor — who have adopted the beliefs of our worst enemies, and, because their minds have been corrupted, they treat their own people as dictated by Americans who for centuries despised us – White Supremacists, including racists and misogynists. Proxyism can be equated with mental illness, whereby, the descendants of slaves defend and identify with oppressors rather than with their victims.

Owens did not wake up one morning and in a paroxysm embrace the philosophy of White Supremacists. Nor was she born with a genetic predisposition to oppose the Democratic Principles that set the Vision, Values, Mission, and Responsibilities of American citizens. Even if she had been born into a family that embraced Proxyism, because Tabula Rasa pertains, she would have had to inculcate those tendencies as she grew to adulthood. Her Treasonist views would have been noticeable, and tolerated, long before Trump came to the fore. Evil people tend not to consider their actions as wrong if everyone around them is doing the same thing; or, mostly, tolerating wrongdoing, which allows evil to become acceptable.
Toleration develops principally because of the courage it takes to oppose people closest to us physically. Little courage is required to attack the opinions and practices of well-known evil-doers, especially those who live far away. But to express opposition against the prevailing thinking of our family members, our friends, members of our affinity groups, and local leaders, and, in particular, to confront our own true inner selves, requires an extraordinary level of moral courage. Few people are willing to risk rejection, exclusion, and abhorrence from people they see every day, rather than to be embraced by them.
Trump’s most ardent devotees supported him when he began his racist “Birther” attacks in 2007; and voted for him in 2016, 2020, and 2024, his vote totals having grown each time. Whether people like Candace Owens, Herschel Walker, Lorenzo Sewell, Mark Robinson, and Clarence Thomas were among his loyal supporters from the start, I don’t know, but I assume so since I have seen no evidence that they have condemned him for recent conduct unbecoming a US president that harmed Black people in particular. Interestingly, according to AP VoteCast, 16 percent of Black voters supported Trump in 2024, up from 8 percent in 2020.
One would think that people mistreated for centuries would be quite difficult to fool by their oppressors; but perhaps the Stockholm Syndrome, where one comes to trust, even love, one’s abusers, applies to Black people whose minds have been “kidnapped” by America’s power elites. There is no difference between someone who is convinced and someone who has been effectively well-deceived.

As Zora Neale Hurston said: “All my skinfolk ain’t my kinfolk.” If we demand righteousness from White Supremacists, we must demand it also from their Proxyists who look like us. Moreover, if members in the House and Senate of whatever ilk have tolerated Trumpism, thereby embracing the philosophy of people who fought a war against the United States to secure the right to enslave, rape, and lynch my ancestors, let’s evict them and Proxyists in both parties in the Midterms on November 3. All 435 House seats and 36 Senate seats are vulnerable.
