Perhaps, there are political purposes behind the rallies and protests of “ No Kings Day” that filled the streets of the U.S cities on October 18. As Trump’s political opponents are indeed pushing the public for such rallies and fueling protesters across the nation, the question is: Are the political opponents alone able to provoke the public and organize these rallies, or are there many Americans frustrated by Trump’s orders and actions across the U.S?
The fact is for every action is a reaction, which can be seen in Trump’s orders regarding crackdown on crimes and illegal immigration. It is no doubt that crimes and illegal immigration in America have put some cities and communities in perilous situations and became devastation for Americans of all races. But also the civility of America cannot accept militarization of American cities as a solution for these problems.
It takes courage to point at the core issues in American communities and the factors that contribute to these issues. The political conflicts and the personal interests of the politicians, including corruption, are contributing to various issues in the country. Also, Democrats Vs. Republicans and Blacks/none Whites discrimination are still an ongoing problem in America.
However, the democratic republic that is a system that was established by the U.S Constitution, does not allow the rule of King or chauvinism in America. Creating a fear in the public and propagation that Trump is threatening democracy and perhaps enforcing an oppressive law is a way to cause unrest and distraction among the American people.
The Twenty-Second Amendment of the U.S Constitution is a clear statement that neither Trump nor other presidents will be King, and indeed the president only serves his term. “ No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice…” 22nd Amendment.
But obviously, a part of the public’s agitation and anger have derived from Trump’s order in conducting operations sweeping America from undocumented immigrants, cracking down on crimes, and moving the National Guards into the cities, which draws an image of a country that is ruled by a Marshal law.
In fact, Trump’s strategy took a wrong trend, and thus, it resulted in growing oppositions against his move in reducing crimes in America. Despite the majority of Americans seeing the crime as a major problem in the big cities, they are less supportive of military controlling local police.
According to AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 81% of Americans see crime as a major problem in big cities but only 32% approve of the military’s control of local police. However, 55% of Americans approve of the military assistance to local police.
Now and in the future, the American system and American society will not digest any form of one man’s rule. American democracy is not in peril and the President of the U.S is not able to abridge America’s democracy.
