Turtle Talk: Conquer with Love – for true and lasting conquest

Conquest through love is an age-old theory that is expressed in every religious dispensation.

“Conquer your foe by force and you increase his anger. Conquer by love and you will reap no after sorrow,” we read from Buddhist Scriptures.

Through the ages it is difficult to understand why man, potentially the most intelligent of all earthly creatures, does not learn the obvious – that disagreements and conflicts between people and nations cannot be resolved through force. All religions agree upon this.

“When one injures another, the injured turns around and injures the injurer. Similarly when one cherishes another, the other cherishes the cherisher. One should fram one’s rule of conduct accordingly,” state the Hindu Writings; and “Force, no matter how concealed, begets resistance,’’ according to Lakota Native Americans.

From volumes of Baha’i Holy Writings we find that “In every home where God is praised and prayed to and His Kingdom proclaimed, that home is a garden of God and a paradise of His happiness…and if love and agreement are manifest in a single family, that family will advance, become illumined and spiritual. But if enmity and hatred exist within it, destruction and dispersion are inevitable.”

How much different is the family of man in this new era of scientific and technological advancement that has made it easier to visualize the oneness of the human race, regardless of racial or national origin, religious or political persuasion on socio-economic background. With this line of thinking there appears to be a widening comforting feeling that from such a single family of love and agreement moving into the First (White) House of this world-wide influential nation must inevitably flow, in time, trickle-down love, advancement and spiritual illumination that, like the sun, will warm the entire earth.

Therefore, be very leery of those who would “keep hate alive,” for hat is darkness and easily manipulated. Only those whose deeds are evil would stand to proper from such darkness and division.

“Love is light, in whatsoever lamp it may shine,” we’re told in the Baha’i Holy Writings. But human love is imperfect and base on too many transitory things. Once the “pith of self hath been blown,” the pure love of God (however you perceive Him) that can then flow freely through, can illuminate the entire earth. Only through love can true conquest occur.

Therefore, “Be a sign of love, a center of love, a sum of love, a world of love, a universe of love,” we are charged in the Baha’i Holy Writings. “Hast thou love, then thy power is irresistible!
