Virginia Physicians Applaud General Assembly for Rejecting Amendments to Affordable Medicine Act

RICHMOND — The Virginia General Assembly today rejected amendments to the Affordable Medicine Act that would have undermined its ability to lower the cost of medicine for Virginians. Physicians across the commonwealth had signed a letter urging lawmakers to oppose the amendments and pass as is. In response to this development, Dr. Heidi Appel, a pediatric critical care medicine specialist in Arlington, released the following statement:

“Virginia physicians applaud the General Assembly for rejecting amendments to the Affordable Medicine Act that would have gutted it. The Affordable Medicine Act, as it stands, is our best chance at bringing down the cost of medicine in Virginia, with an innovative approach designed to mirror federal practices to ensure its effectiveness and guarantee cost savings for Virginians. The amendments rejected today would have fundamentally changed the bill. We thank legislators for standing by the Affordable Medicine Act, our patients, and all Virginians, and urge Governor Spanberger to again support the bipartisan bill as it passed the legislature.”
