Student singers group will perform this Sunday at First Wesleyan Church
Virginia Western Community College is proud to announce the debut of the Virginia Western Singers, an auditioned student singing group that showcases the best vocal talent from the college. The Virginia Western Singers will launch their Christmas performances around the region beginning this Sunday (12/9).
The Singers’ Christmas shows will include music such as “Oh, What a Wonderful Child,” “The Christmas Song: Chestnuts Roasting,” “All I Want for Christmas is You,” “O Holy Night,” “Go Tell It On the Mountain,” and much more.
The group will perform at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 2 at First Wesleyan Church, 3706 Peters Creek Rd; Sunday, Dec. 9, 10:30 a.m.
Additional performances will be held at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, 2712 Brandon Ave. SW and for three services at 8:15, 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 at New Hope Christian Church, 4229 Welcome Valley Rd.
The public is invited to attend these free performances. The Singers will also be performing for private events at Virginia Western and for Carilion Clinic.
“We can’t wait to present these first performances of the founding group of Virginia Western Singers,” said Laura Ruth Hall, director of the group who is a communication and student development professor at Virginia Western. Hall recently joined the college after 15 years in the Kentucky Community College System.
The group performs pop, country, rock and a capella styles of music. The singers will travel throughout the Roanoke area serving as representatives for the college and lending their talents for many events in the area.
“Virginia Western is a wonderful place to get your degree, earn credits that transfer to a four-year university, enhance your career, or just learn something new,” said Jesse White, a freshman member of the group. “I am very thankful that our college has student involvement groups like the Virginia Western Singers, and I am proud to be a part of the group and a part of our Christmas shows.”
