President Trump’s idea to purchase Canada to become America’s 51st state is not only an unethical philosophy, it is also colonialist strategy to confiscate another nation and expand the U.S, territorially and geographically. To review the history of European colonialism across the world, which began in the 15th century, it indeed was based on invading the nations, using their natural resources, and destroying their citizens’ national identity.
Seemingly, it is a modern strategy of Trump to return to the colonialism era through purchasing nations of the world to become parts of the U.S. Obviously, since becoming president, Trump suggested that the U.S purchases Greenland, Canada, and take over Gaza. Such suggestions will not provide the U.S and the American people a security and a friendship with other nations’ citizens. In fact, it will create a negative perspective and hostility from the world toward the U.S.
As the U.S’s foreign policy has caused America to be the least favored nation in the world, it is necessary for the U.S to shift some of its policy and establish a better path for friendship and strengthen its relationship with the allies. Obviously, purchasing countries will not bring a solution to America, reversely; it will create more obstacles for the U.S government to solve the ongoing America’s domestic and international problems.
However, the subject of Canada to be sold to the U.S was clearly answered by newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the meeting with Trump on Tuesday, May 6th. “As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale,” Carney said, referring to Canada.
But President Trump has a different vision, “When you look at that beautiful formation when it’s together – I’m a very artistic person – but when I looked at that, I said, ‘That’s the way it was meant to be,’” Trump said. Seeing Canada to be a part of the U.S is what the President’s intention is. The American people should not support such an idea as they believe in the sovereignty of America, they should believe in the sovereignty of Canada in the same way.
Instead of aiming to purchase foreign nations, the President’s obligation is to fulfill his promises to the voters, which are improving the economy and bringing back peace in Ukraine and Gaza. The political manipulation is obvious more than ever among the politicians, and Americans are in the middle of the political hurricane.
However, PM Carney’s response to President Trump that Canada is “not for sale” is an apparent response from the Canadian people as they have protested against the suggestion of Canada becoming the U.S’s 51 state. In fact, one of the Canadian protesters said, “The threat to our sovereignty is absolutely insane.” It is with no doubt that the Canadians are proud of Canada the same way that the Americans are proud of America.
After all, suggesting that Canada be purchased by the U.S and become the 51st state is far from common sense and an insult to the Canadian people.
When the country’s policy becomes business that does not serve the majority:
While conducting a successful business requires a clever mindset, it is also important to regard the ethical way and realize that sacrificing humans for the sake of a successful business will definitely cost the society. This can be seen in the Department of Government Efficiency that was established by President Trump as he assigned Elon Musk to lead it. Initially, the purpose of establishing this Department was to eliminate the waste of America’s dollar!
But Musk blindly began to lead the Department, eliminated funds and jobs, which resulted in chaos and affected many necessary programs in America. The question is: How can a billionaire, such as Musk, understand the struggle and the needs of a poor or even a middle class person? In fact, he will not.
Whether seeking to purchase countries or cutting the federal funds from American people, idea or policy, it is a Trojan horse that only inflates the rich, and maintains the struggle of the average American
