Women have been making history for as long as there has been a history to be made. So many of the things that are used on a daily basis came from inventions created by women. It would be difficult to imagine a life without the inventions.
Every day, the world uses most of these inventions without even thinking about how they came about. Therefore, the next time you used anything on the following list, take the time to thank a woman.
Where would we be without Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, computer programming, home security systems, telecommunications, space station power, or even computers? They all came from a woman. Thanks to Hedy Lamarr, Dr. Gladys West, Ada Lovelace, Marie Van Brittan Brown, Elisha Gray, and Olga Gonzalez-Sarabria for the above items.
Kelvar for bulletproof vests (Stephanie Kwolek), aquariums (Jeanne Ville Preux-Power), signal flares (Martha Coston), circular saws (Sarah “Tabitha” Babbit), liquid paper (Bette Nesmith Graham), invisible glass (Katherine Burr Blodgett), and windshield wipers (Mary Anderson) are things that would not be available if not for a woman. Most could not imagine life with coffee filters (Melitta Bentz), paper bags (Margaret E. Knight), foot pedal trashcan (Lillian Gilbreth), retractable dog leashes (Mary A. Delaney), Monopoly game (Elizabeth Magie), treatments for malaria (Tu Youyou), or chocolate chips cookies (Ruth Wakefield). Yet prior to reading this, many had no idea that all these came from a woman.
Hopefully, the creativity and ingenuity of women will be better appreciated after seeing all the inventions from women. As previously stated, remember to thank a woman as you use any of these inventions. And more importantly, is to thank the woman who created her greatest invention – YOU!
