The (WUCA) Women United for Community Action held its annual fashion show/luncheon on Sunday, March 19, at the Holiday Inn, Ordway Drive.
The theme, “A Fun Day of Fashion in the Sun” provided the near 200 attendees with fashions they loved and a delicious meal, as well.
The show was spearheaded by Co-Chairs Connie Steele and daughter-in love, Taisha Steele, who did an excellent job coordinating the fashions provided by various stores in the community and from the closets of some of the models. Show commentators Garland Gravely, Fashionista of Roanoke, and Joyce Watkins kept the audience enlightened on the latest trends as the models strutted the runway in the Business; Casual; Let’s Go to Church; Hair with Attitude (natural hair); Semi-Formal; Furs and Formal categories.
The Women United for Community Action organization has been providing service projects throughout the year along with scholarships and donations to worthy programs. This year, the ladies were happy to award donations totaling $3,500.00 to several groups. Recipients were: the Renaissance Academy, Apple Ridge Farms, Blue Storm Sports Association, Virginia Raptors Track Club and the NAACP ACT-SO program.
The annual fashion show has been very successful and each show’s proceeds will continue to support community projects. Applications for donations will be available for those needing assistance in the early part of 2018.
