Mekayla Sanae Wilson has shown how putting Christ first, self-sacrifice, determination, commitment and perseverance are so important for success. The 2026 Kinesiology Major graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude and helped in making history for the track team.
Mekayla, one of the distinguished year-round athletes, competed in Cross Country and Indoor/Outdoor Track. Noble achievements include: national recognition in the 800 meter, ranking number six in the nation among HBCU athletes; participating in Hampton’s track historic first appearance at the National Cross Country Championship Conference held at the University of Virginia; the relay team set a new school record by winning the first indoor Championship 2026 CAA 4×800 meter. The indoor women’s team won its first overall indoor CAA Champions and also set a national conference record in Pennsylvania relays. The Relay Team set a national conference record for the 800 meter at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA; and broke two longstanding track and field records. This track team showed up and made history during her collegiate career at Hampton.
Mekayla will continue her academic journey starting in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Virginia Commonwealth University this summer.
