To celebrate our nation’s anniversary, the Mill Mountain Star will be illuminated in red, white and blue for five days – from Wednesday, July 1, through Sunday, July 5. City Council approved the temporary change to the Mill Mountain Star’s regular lighting schedule during its 2 p.m. meeting on June 15, 2026.
The Berglund Center will also be illuminated red, white and blue during this time.
Typically, the Mill Mountain Star is only lit in a patriotic color scheme on the following dates: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriot Day (September 11), and Veteran’s Day.
The Mill Mountain Star, which stands 88 ½ feet tall, is the world’s largest freestanding neon star. The Kinsey Sign Company as a seasonal Christmas decoration built it in 1949.
