The Roanoke Chapter of SCLC is planning a bus trip to the Moton Museum (Farmville) and the Lynchburg Museum Saturday, Sept.26. The bus will leave Roanoke from a central location, at 8:00 a.m. return to Roanoke at 4:00 p.m. The cost is $68.00 per person. Lunch is not included.
The Moton Museum, https://motonmuseum.org, tells the story of Barbara Johns who led a student protest/walk out in 1951.
“Before Selma, before Montgomery, there was Farmville, where young people made history. The Civil Rights movement came to Farmville, Virginia, thanks to the courage of students protesting inequality. “ Her statue was unveiled in December, 2025 at the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C, and replaced the statue of Robert E. Lee. Barbara Johns Powell died September 28, 1991. The Lynchburg Museum, https://lynchburgmuseum.org/slaver-in-lynchburg has many new exhibits.
