Total Action for Progress (TAP) hosted a heartfelt event this week at Indian Village Head Start Center to honor Member One, a division of Virginia Credit Union, for its generous and sustained support of TAP programs that uplift families and children across the Roanoke Valley and Allegheny Highlands – including the donation that made a new Head Start bus possible.
The celebration took place during Week of the Young Child (April 5–11) – a national observance recognizing the importance of early learning and the critical role of community partnerships in helping children thrive. The event also served as a meaningful milestone in TAP’s 60th anniversary year, with the agency’s official birthday just a few weeks away later this April.
Representatives from Member One, Angela Martin and Alex Lucas, were honored during the celebration, which featured artwork from Head Start children, a special magnet unveiling on the TAP Head Start bus acknowledging Member One’s support, and a tour of the bus itself. TAP leadership and program staff, including representatives from both Head Start and Domestic Violence Services, joined in recognizing this vital community partner.
In addition to the gift that funded the bus, Member One, a division of Virginia Credit Union, recently contributed $50,000 to TAP’s Domestic Violence Services. That investment made it possible for 11 families – including 8 with children – to escape dangerous situations and begin rebuilding their lives in safety. In total, 23 children gained access to secure housing, stability, and the opportunity to heal in a violence-free environment.
