Who is Mason Scott?
I would describe myself as a calm and reasonable person. I have many goals, both personally and professionally. I understand that the only way I’m going to accomplish them is through hard work.
Where were you born and raised? What was your upbringing like?
I was born and raised in Roanoke. Growing up in a single-parent household was hard at times, but my mom made the difficult look easy. Without question, she is the main reason I am where I am today. She is my hero.
After high school, what was the next chapter of your life?
Once I earned my diploma from Northside High a few years ago, I furthered my studies in art at the Arnold Burton Technical School. There, I was able to refine my skills and artistic expertise. I have always wanted to be an artist. My ultimate goal is to have my art shown in galleries all over the world.
What is your official title and what do your responsibilities consist of?
I am a visual artist who takes tremendous pride in entertaining audiences and working on commission projects. I want my art to serve as a beacon of comfort and hope, illuminating the world with creativity one project at a time. I create under the name “Haise.”
How important is family to you?
To say that family is important to me would be a massive understatement. We don’t always agree on everything, but I am lucky to have the family that I do. They have helped me so much over the years. I am lucky to have people in my corner who encourage me to pursue my dreams.
If you were building the ultimate music playlist for a six-hour road trip, which artists would be on it?
It’ll probably start with The Weeknd and end with Drake. Between them would be Utada Hikaru and Green Day.
How would you describe your relationship with the City of Roanoke?
I can’t speak for everyone, but to me, Roanoke is a friendly and loving community.
Outside of your profession, what do your hobbies consist of?
I am passionate about learning to play the guitar. I also love watching competitions and discovering new music.
Which people have had the biggest impact on your life outside of your family?
A lot of people fit the bill. At the top of that list would be my former daycare teacher, Mr. G., and my former high school teacher, Mr. Chipwood.
If you could go back and give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
Don’t quit and don’t let nobody tell you what you can’t do in life. Continue to put in the work because hard work truly does pay off.
