The longest, most expensive and most historic election in the history of this youthful nation was the election of this country’s first African-American president. This event spoke volumes of our maturing, multicultural society whose love for this nation and its model status in the world superseded the hate of the tiny minority that historically reeked havoc, death and destruction on those of other race or culture, religious or political persuasion. There is a spiritual and psychological difference between those will to die for their county and those trained to kill for what they are told is the best interest of their country.
Observe how rarely human souls sacrifice even their pleasure or comfort for others. How totally inconceivable that one in today’s self-centered society would accept a position or undertake a mission that may ultimately result in his death. It’s a love thing – the highest form of love – and “Greater Love Hath No Man.”
Such love must manifest its reality in deeds for there are many ways of expressing the love principle – love of family, of country, race, of community or of individuals. Such love fluctuates and competitions arise that often lead to jealousy and eventually hatred replaces love. Love is stronger than hate for love is of God and God is love. Therefore the higher love, of and through God, is joy after joy and confidence after confidence. It illumines the heart and brings understanding, “and with understand peace.
It brings perspective to the battlefields and with perspective assurance of ultimate victory. It brings a knowledge of the oceans depths while being tossed upon its surface, and with knowledge a divine tranquility even while the tempest is raging,” we are assured through the Baha’i Holy Writings.
It’s a love thing – you wouldn’t understand!
