The City of Roanoke will began milling and paving Williamson Road between Orange Avenue and the City limit near Malvern Road on Monday, Aug. 24, as part of the Envision Williamson Road Project.
Construction will occur overnight between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and is due to be completed by Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. Crews will begin work on the Orange Avenue side of the corridor and progress north toward Malvern Road.
The work is part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety, improve traffic flow and modernize our public infrastructure. A six-month roadway demonstration that added a center turn lane to the Williamson Road corridor between Pocahontas Avenue and Angell Avenue resulted in a 38% reduction in traffic crashes. As part of Envision Williamson Road implementation, that center turn lane will remain, and a center turn lane will also be added from Airport Road through the City limit near Malvern Road.
Construction is scheduled overnight to minimize daytime traffic impacts; however, drivers may experience delays in the area. Local traffic will continue to have access to homes and businesses throughout the paving project.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should use caution when traveling through the work zone and remain alert for crews and equipment.
