Church Women United in the Roanoke Valley held the fourth annual “Love Thy Neighbor Walk held on Saturday, April 5.
This year’s focus was on the Grandin Road community. A total of 52 walkers representing 25 different faith communities participated. Mayor Joe Cobb and Sheriff Antonio Hash also joined the Walk.
Participants visited Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Roanoke, and Heights Community Church and learned about the many ministries and partnerships through which these congregations share the love of God with their neighbors. At the conclusion of the Walk, those in attendance offered a “Litany of Prayers for the Grandin Road Community” and prayed for students at Virginia Heights Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Middle, and Patrick Henry High schools; residents and staff at Raleigh Court Health and Rehabilitation Center; staff and volunteers at The Bridge Institute, Roanoke Co-op, LEAP, the Co-Lab, and Clean Valley Council; individuals who struggle with substance abuse and able to access support through programs housed in area churches; and all the churches and residents in the Grandin Road community.
CWU-RV members are grateful to all those who made it possible for the presence of God to be revealed in the Grandin Road area of our city.
