The Roanoke Youth Council continues to make an incredible mark across the Commonwealth! During the 90th Virginia State Conference (VSC) of the NAACP, our young leaders represented the Roanoke Branch with excellence, confidence, and grace showing that the next generation of civil rights leaders is already here.
President Christian Burnette, son of Cecil and Linda Hodnett and the late Jamaal Barber, was appointed Chair of the Time and Place Committee. Christian demonstrated remarkable poise and leadership as he stood before hundreds of delegates to deliver his report and his commanding performance drew admiration from youth and adults alike; his courage, clarity, and eloquence made Roanoke proud.
Treasurer Simone Bryant, daughter of Cochise and Dawn Bryant, was appointed Chair of the Credentials Committee. Simone executed her duties with grace, intelligence, and confidence, earning the respect of her peers and conference leaders. Her detailed and professional report reflected a high level of preparation and leadership maturity well beyond her years.
1st Vice President Paris Scott, daughter of Pastor Cecil and Precious Scott, showed courage and determination as she ran for VSC Youth and College 2nd Vice President. Although she did not win the election, her character and leadership did not go unnoticed. In a powerful display of respect and unity, newly elected VSC Youth and College President Jalen Vince appointed Paris to serve as 3rd Vice President which speaks volumes about her leadership potential and the high regard others have for her dedication to youth empowerment and justice.
2nd Vice President Nazier Jackson, son of Ashley Lawrence, continues to play a vital role in the Roanoke Youth Council. Each of these young leaders embodies the mission and purpose of the NAACP to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination. Their achievements at the Virginia State Conference remind us that the future of the movement is bright and in capable hands.
The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month from 6:00 -7:30 pm at the Gainsboro Library, 15 Patton Ave in NW.
